Biographies of the current directors:

PaulPaul Gilmour-Walsh (President)

Paul joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1954 at the age of 13. During his 46 years with the RAN/RANR he was responsible for training, administration, operations and diplomacy in Australia and overseas. He served in 8 ships of the RAN and RN.

Paul was Defence Attaché to Vanuatu during the Independence Rebellion of 1980, Head of Australian Defence Staff and Defence Adviser PNG (1987-90), Defence Adviser Solomon Islands (1987-88) and an attachment to Joint Intelligence Organisation in 1990. After completion of his full time service career, he embarked on a new career of Community involvement.

HenriettaHenrietta McAlister

Resident of Mapleton for nearly 15 years and member of the Blackall Range Land Use and Planning Association, based in Mapleton. I have joined the Green Hills board primarily to provide a link between the two main planning and environment bodies on the Range. My work experience is mostly govt. but not exclusively.  I was Secretary to the Hinterland Shire Committee for about 5 years in the late nineties and more recently part of the Maleny Bioregional Common group. Lately I have undertaken a variety of support roles for community events underpinning community cultural development.

JohnJohn Wildman

Graduate of Hawkesbury UWS. Joined Education Dept later DPI as Field Extension Advisory Officer, commencing duty for on Far North Coast of NSW for 4 years, then 33 years in western NSW  involved with various programmes dealing with crops, livestock, soil conservation, trees on farm, group extension organisation, Organising & running schools of instruction in farm management, meeting procedure, human resources, welding, Shearing, tractors farm machinery. My district covered the lower 1/3 of NSW from west of the Great dividing Range to the South Aust border.

SteveSteve Swayne 

Steve has lived in the Maleny area since 1999. In that time Steve has lived on acreage properties (including 3 years at Crystal Waters) and in town, and he has been involved in many local issues of social and environmental concern. Steve's background is 20 years of  experience in logistics, management, and maritime science where he  worked for Navy in hydrographic surveying of Australia’s tropical  waters. Steve recently spent 6 years as a Director of Maleny Credit  Union. He is interested in the responsible management of our local  waterways, riparian areas and remnant vegetation. Steve is keen to see the promotion of native flora from our local region and revegetation and restoration of rainforest habitat. Steve is actively involved in the revegetation to parklands of a large portion of the Maleny Community Precinct.

LesDr Les Hall

lectured in human and veterinary anatomy for 26 years at the University of Queensland. Previous to that he worked for the CSIRO Division of Wildlife Research. He has conducted field work on bats and wildlife in general in Australia and southeast Asia  and co-authored two books on bats. In retirement, he has continued his research on bats in Australia and Malaysian Borneo. He is now a wildlife consultant and is involved in field work with flying foxes and microbats for the Centre for Australian Biosecurity.

Sammy  rSammy Ringer
Sammy moved to Maleny in 1994, leaving a TV career that spanned 26 years and a range of programs. She is the publisher of Australian Bushfoods magazine, past editor of SCEC's Eco Eco and has been active in a number of environmental groups.

 Sue Mihovilovich (Hon. Secretary)

Sue is an experienced program director and project manager and works with primarily with large corporations and government bodies who are intent on maximising the investment they make in change. For fun she translates her learnings into simple solutions for strengthening community-based projects. She has represented member and stakeholder interests at local, state and national level. Most wonderful time was two years as a field officer for social justice grants in remote Aboriginal Northern Territory communities in a time of self-determination and celebration.

In 2008 Obi Obi Parklands became major project of Green Hills for the year. Involvement on Sunshine Coast Regional Council Maleny Precinct Advisory Group. Commenced detailed development of lease proposal for a significant area within the Maleny Community Precinct. Refer to the special Maleny Community Precinct Obi Obi Parklands Website.

Green Hills works in partnership with community, government and business to protect the rural integrity and character of the Maleny District, endeavouring to  preserve the town's history as an existing service town to farming community.

Who Are Maleny & District Green Hills?

Initiated  by Dr. Greg Wren of Maleny, with the support of a group of concerned citizens sharing his vision, Green Hills was first registered as a Public Company Limited by Guarantee under Queensland Corporation Law in December 1995. Listed on the Australian Government Register of Environmental Organisations, which entitles contributors to full tax deductability on donations to the Gift Fund, which has its own Trustees.
